Frequently Asked Questions

xSIMS

A download is not working or the downloaded file is corrupt and/or is just not what was expected.
Deactivate any downloadmanagers like Getright while downloading from 'xSIMS' or simply hold down shift while clicking on the download link, or just try again.

We've made some bad experiences with software like Norton Internet Security and the like. If you have such a software running in the back deactivate it and try to download again. If the download then works, check the configuration of that software. If you need help for the configuration of that software contact the support of the software manufacturer.

I can't download.
Images are not displayed on xSIMS.
When accessing downloads I get an "Access Denied" or "you are not authorised" error and/or I do get a referrer error message.
To be able to download files from 'xSIMS' you need to be registered and logged in.

"Register now"

To be able to download Rewards you must be "Supporter".

If you have got an xSIMS error message, make sure you have read the error message completely and followed the instructions in it if there were any.

You must allow cookies from xSIMS. Check in your browser settings that cookies form sims2xsims.de and xsims.de are being accepted.

The reason for this error message can also be that your browser does not send a referer. Make sure sending a referer is turned on in your browser configuration. If you do not know how to do that, refer to your browser manual or contact the browser support.

Another reason could be a firewall or a tool like Norton Internet Security that blocks the referer. If you have any such software running, just try for testing purposes to deactivate them all and check if the download then works, or check your software documentation to find out how to allow sending the referer. If you cant find out by yourself, contact the support of the software developer.

The following browsers where tested by us and worked fine:
>Internet Explorer from version 6 on
>Firefox from version 0.8 on

Because it is widely spread today to steal content from others webpages, what will lead to high traffic costs for the website owner, one is forced to take measurements that this will not happen. That's why it is necessary that your browser sends the referer.
The referer tells our system from what website you look at our images or try to start downloads, that's the way we use this information, just to make sure users can only access our content from our website. We do not spy on you using this function. No personal informations will be stored on our systems about the referers.

What is PayPal?
PayPal is a company which provides the service of sending secure payments on the Internet. To use this service you must register with PayPal and provide your personal details as well as a payment option. These differ from country to country but no mater where you live credit card is always accepted, in some countries you may use a debit card, bank account or e-check.

How much does PayPal cost?
PayPal is for buyers free of charge.

When and where do I register?
After you've clicked the "Donation-Button" you'll be forwarded to the SSL secured website of PayPal where you will get an overview for this transaction. If you are already a registered user then you only need to logon to PayPal and confirm the payment. If you don't have a PayPal-Account you will find an option there to register free of charge. How do the different Nude downloads for 'The Sims 2' work?
We have three sub-categories at the category 'Nude':

1. Nude Skins
Short: Skin with sexual Characteristics.
Long: Those are additions for the category 'genetics'. That means if you install such a skin then you have an additional skin colour available when creating a new Sim.
Skins can't be changed on already existing Sims.
That Skin will for example be visible when your Sim takes a shower. (To remove that weird pixel stuff you need an additional Nude Patch.) Nude Skins created by xSIMS include the gender typical sexual Characteristics.

2. Clothes for Nude Skins
Short: Let's your Sim show his Skin. Is needed when you use a nude Skin. Long: These Clothes are transparent. That means if you use the clothes your Sim will show the Skin underneath. So if you choose this clothes as e.g. swimwear then he will go swimming naked.
Those clothes make only sense when the Sim has a nude skin. (See No.1)

3. Nude Clothes
Short: Needed when the Sim does not have a Nude Skin but you want him to be naked.
Long: This is clothing which your Sim, who e.g. does not have a nude skin can wear to be naked in the desired situation.
This clothing is needed for Sims who don't have a nude skin. The disadvantage of this clothing is that if your Sim for example takes a shower, no genitals will show because he has taken off all his clothes. That would only work with a nude skin. (See No.1)

Resume: If you or rather your Sim does not have a Nude Skin for a certain skin colour or no nude skin at all then you need the Nude Clothes to make your Sim naked.
If your Sim does have a Nude Skin then you'll need the Clothes for Nude Skins.

EA added a Censor Grid, which makes the Sims look blurry if they are naked. To get rid of it, and see the Nude Skins without the blurry bits you'll need a Censor Remover. "Our Censor Remover can be downloaded here."

Got it ;)
If not please, feel free to ask your question at the help forum.

Login and Registration Issues

Why can’t I login?
There are several reasons why this could occur. First, ensure your username and password are correct.
Make sure your browser accepts cookies from "xsims.de" and "sims2xsims.de".
Top

Why do I get logged off automatically?
If you do not check the Log me in automatically box when you login, the board will only keep you logged in for a preset time. This prevents misuse of your account by anyone else. To stay logged in, check the box during login. This is not recommended if you access the board from a shared computer, e.g. library, internet cafe, university computer lab, etc.

How can I delete my user account?
We do not store any personal data, thus we are not obliged to delete any accounts.
The data stored is all anonymous, no real name or address is attached to it as long as you didn't do it yourself. If you stored personal data in your profile you can always go to your profile page and delete that personal data yourself. And if you don't like us to have your email address you should have not signed up with xSims in the first place.

The reasons why we decided to not delete user accounts are multiple. First off, there is a reason why we decided that only people who signed up will be able to download our stuff. The reason being that we want people to participate in the xSims community, for example here in the forums. If we allow people to delete their account right after they signed up and downloaded everything that they wanted, that would completely stay against the whole purpose of being a community page where people share what they did or contributing in other ways to the community.
Second and no less important, it "creates" work to delete user accounts. And we sure have enough of that already. It might not sound much for just one account but you are not the only member. Imagine 60 people on a daily basis would like to get their account deleted and further lets say we need 1 minute for every one to delete, we are sure you can do the math. That is something we don't want to do and we can't afford to do as a private fan site. Our time is as limited as yours. We are doing all this in our private spare time. And we rather spend this precious time on things we like to do like for example creating new mods for The Sims.

I registered but cannot login!
First, check your username and password. If they are correct, then one of two things may have happened. If COPPA support is enabled and you specified being under 13 years old during registration, you will have to follow the instructions you received. Some boards will also require new registrations to be activated, either by yourself or by an administrator before you can logon; this information was present during registration. If you were sent an e-mail, follow the instructions. If you did not receive an e-mail, you may have provided an incorrect e-mail address or the e-mail may have been picked up by a spam filer. If you are sure the e-mail address you provided is correct, try contacting an administrator.

What is COPPA? / I mistakenly stated to be under the age of 13!
COPPA, or the Child Online Privacy and Protection Act of 1998, is a law in the United States requiring websites which can potentially collect information from minors under the age of 13 to have written parental consent or some other method of legal guardian acknowledgment, allowing the collection of personally identifiable information from a minor under the age of 13.

We've decided to support this Act everyone under the age if 13 requires a hand signed approval from a parent.
If you mistakenly stated to be under the age of 13 you'll need to send us a valid proof of age.
"I am the mother of two.", or "I am a grandfather with a beard to my belt." is not a valid proof of age and will be ignored.

In both cases reply to the email you've received after your registration. Feel free to attach a scan.

xSIMS - Supporter

What is this all about being a xSIMS Supporter and how do I become one?
Being an xSIMS Supporter will enable you to download all content, even the ones marked as Supporter Rewards. For a detailed list of all current privileges click on this Link.

Becoming a xSIMS Supporter is nothing you can buy in the typical way, it's a "Thank-You-Gift" that we give to those who have become valuable contributors to the xSIMS community. A valuable contribution can be mods you've uploaded, news you've posted, regularly participation in our forums or a substantial donation (the minimum amount is specified at our donation site) you made. Donations helps us sustain xSIMS and develop new and high quality clothes, skins and tools! It also helps us to cover the costs for domain registrations, software, and hosting. If you are interested in keeping xSIMS in a position to continue its development into the future, it would be very much appreciated if you could "make a donation".
However, there will always be lots of downloads free for all.

If you make a donation, be sure you are logged in! Otherwise you'll not be moved automatically to the Supporter Group and the whole process will be lengthened.

Is it allowed to share xSIMS Supporter Rewards I have downloaded?
You will help us if you don't share it!

The Supporter Rewards help us to cover the costs for domain registrations, software, and hosting thus we depend upon these donations. If supporters now share the rewards with others they'll probably not donate anything to us and it will become more likely that one day we will be forced to shut down xSIMS.

So please stay fair. Thanks.
Top

I made a Donation, but can't download the Supporter Rewards.
If you donated the amount specified on the donation pager or more you should have automatically been added to the xSIMS Supporter group and your user name should be simish green. If this is not the case for you you most possibly were not logged in at xSIMS when you made the donation or you did not use our donation form to send the donation. If for whatever reason you weren't added to the Supporter group, please send a PM to masc stating your PayPal Transaction Number, date of the donation and your email address registered with PayPal. We then have to check this personally. Please keep in mind that xSIMS is a private fan-website. It therefore can take a few days and even longer during holidays until we find the time to help you with your issue.

Please check your PM's regularly as we will contact you through that channel.

Formatting and Topic Types

What is BBCode?
BBCode is a special implementation of HTML, offering great formatting control on particular objects in a post. The use of BBCode is granted by the administrator, but it can also be disabled on a per post basis from the posting form. BBCode itself is similar in style to HTML, but tags are enclosed in square brackets [ and ] rather than < and >. For more information on BBCode see the guide which can also be accessed from the posting page.
Top

Can I use HTML?
No. It is not possible to post HTML on this board and have it rendered as HTML. Most formatting which can be carried out using HTML can be applied using BBCode instead.
Top

What are Smilies?
Smilies, or Emoticons, are small images which can be used to express a feeling using a short code, e.g. :) denotes happy, while :( denotes sad. The full list of emoticons can be seen in the posting form. Try not to overuse smilies, however, as they can quickly render a post unreadable and a moderator may edit them out or remove the post altogether.
Top

Can I post images?
Yes, images can be shown in your posts. You may use attachments to upload the image to the board. You may also link to an image that you uploaded on an image share site such as ImageShack. Please restrain from hot linking images from other websites, as this will cause traffic for that site and is most likely not wanted!

Hint: If you attached an image, a small version of it is displayed as preview on the forums overview. To prevent this rename you file like this: yourfilename_nt.jpg

How do I edit or delete a post?
Unless you are a board administrator or moderator, you can only edit or delete your own posts. You can edit a post by clicking the edit button for the relevant post, sometimes for only a limited time after the post was made. If someone has already replied to the post, you will find a small piece of text output below the post when you return to the topic which lists the number of times you edited it along with the date and time. This will only appear if someone has made a reply; it will not appear if a moderator or administrator edited the post, though they may leave a note as to why they’ve edited the post at their own digression. Please note that normal users cannot delete a post once someone has replied.
Top

How do I add a signature to my post?
To add a signature to a post you must first create one via your User Control Panel. Once created, you can check the Attach a signature box on the posting form to add your signature. You can also add a signature by default to all your posts by checking the appropriate radio button in your profile. If you do so, you can still prevent a signature being added to individual posts by un-checking the add signature box within the posting form.

How do I create a poll?
When posting a new topic or editing the first post of a topic, click the “Poll creation” tab below the main posting form; if you cannot see this, you do not have appropriate permissions to create polls. Enter a title and at least two options in the appropriate fields, making sure each option is on a separate line in the textarea. You can also set the number of options users may select during voting under “Options per user”, a time limit in days for the poll (0 for infinite duration) and lastly the option to allow users to amend their votes.
Top

How do I edit or delete a poll?
As with posts, polls can only be edited by the original poster, a moderator or an administrator. To edit a poll, click to edit the first post in the topic; this always has the poll associated with it. If no one has cast a vote, users can delete the poll or edit any poll option. However, if members have already placed votes, only moderators or administrators can edit or delete it. This prevents the poll’s options from being changed mid-way through a poll.

Why can’t I access a forum?
Some forums may be limited to certain users or groups. To view, read, post or perform another action you may need special permissions. Contact a moderator or board administrator to grant you access.
Top

Why can’t I add attachments?
Attachment permissions are granted on a per forum, per group, or per user basis. The board administrator may not have allowed attachments to be added for the specific forum you are posting in, or perhaps only certain groups can post attachments.
However, you should be able to use attachments on most xSIMS forums. If you cannot contact an Administrator.

Private Messaging

I cannot send private messages!
There are three reasons for this; you are not registered and/or not logged on, or the board administrator has prevented you from sending messages. Contact a board administrator for more information.
Top

I keep getting unwanted private messages!
You can block a user from sending you private messages by using message rules within your User Control Panel. If you are receiving abusive private messages from a particular user, inform a board administrator; they have the power to prevent a user from sending private messages.
Top

I have received a spamming or abusive e-mail from someone on this board!
We are sorry to hear that. The e-mail form feature of this board includes safeguards to try and track users who send such posts, so e-mail the board administrator with a full copy of the e-mail you received. It is very important that this includes the headers that contain the details of the user that sent the e-mail. The board administrator can then take action.

User Levels and Groups

What are Administrators?
Administrators are members assigned with the highest level of control over the entire board. These members can control all facets of board operation, including setting permissions, banning users, creating usergroups or moderators, etc., dependent upon the board founder and what permissions he or she has given the other administrators. They may also have full moderator capabilities in all forums, depending on the settings put forth by the board founder.
Top

What are Moderators?
Moderators are individuals (or groups of individuals) who look after the forums from day to day. They have the authority to edit or delete posts and lock, unlock, move, delete and split topics in the forum they moderate. Generally, moderators are present to prevent users from going off-topic or posting abusive or offensive material.
Top

What are usergroups?
Usergroups are groups of users that divide the community into manageable sections board administrators can work with. Each user can belong to several groups and each group can be assigned individual permissions. This provides an easy way for administrators to change permissions for many users at once, such as changing moderator permissions or granting users access to a private forum.
Top

Where are the usergroups and how do I join one?
You can view all usergroups via the “Usergroups” link within your User Control Panel. If you would like to join one, proceed by clicking the appropriate button. Not all groups have open access, however. Some may require approval to join, some may be closed and some may even have hidden memberships. If the group is open, you can join it by clicking the appropriate button. If a group requires approval to join you may request to join by clicking the appropriate button. The user group leader will need to approve your request and may ask why you want to join the group. Please do not harass a group leader if they reject your request; they will have their reasons.
Top

How do I become a usergroup leader?
A usergroup leader is usually assigned when usergroups are initially created by a board administrator. If you are interested in creating a usergroup, your first point of contact should be an administrator; try sending a private message.
Top

Why do some usergroups appear in a different colour?
It is possible for the board administrator to assign a colour to the members of a usergroup to make it easy to identify the members of this group.
Top

What is a “Default usergroup”?
If you are a member of more than one usergroup, your default is used to determine which group colour and group rank should be shown for you by default. The board administrator may grant you permission to change your default usergroup via your User Control Panel.

Friends and Foes

What are my Friends and Foes lists?
You can use these lists to organise other members of the board. Members added to your friends list will be listed within your User Control Panel for quick access to see their online status and to send them private messages. Subject to template support, posts from these users may also be highlighted. If you add a user to your foes list, any posts they make will be hidden by default.
